IT Day XR Dome case study

Culenz designed, equipped and staffed an immersive XR dome at IT Day, run with a state government. More than 1,00,000 visitors experienced it over the event.

01 — Overview

The idea behind the dome

Government technology events often rely on panels, screens and speeches. An immersive dome lets visitors experience the story instead.

Culenz designed, equipped and staffed an XR dome at IT Day, run with a state government.

02 — What's included

The project at a glance

  • The brief

Turn a government technology event into an experience visitors remember, at very high footfall.

  • Our solution

An immersive XR dome with content, hardware and a Culenz crew for the full event.

  • The result

More than 1,00,000 visitors experienced the dome.

03 — Key features

IT Day XR Dome in depth

  1. 01

    Domes for high footfall

A dome surrounds a group with projected content, so many people share each session. No one needs to wear a headset.

That makes it ideal for events where thousands of visitors arrive each day.

  2. 02

    More than 1,00,000 visitors

More than 1,00,000 visitors experienced the IT Day XR Dome over the event. Serving that many people takes careful planning.

Session length, queue design and crew numbers were planned around the expected footfall.

  3. 03

    Content, hardware and crew

One Culenz team delivered the content, the hardware and the crew for the full event. That kept responsibility in one place.

Our crew guided visitors, managed queues and kept the dome running from opening to close.

  4. 04

    XR domes for government teams

A dome gives a department a memorable way to show its work to citizens. Visitors leave with a clear picture of the programme.

Large visitor numbers also give organisers a strong story to report to stakeholders.

  5. 05

    Domes for other events

The same approach suits expos, state celebrations, science festivals and brand launches. Domes can be designed to travel between venues.

Content can be a film, an animation or a live show, made for the dome's curved screen.

  6. 06

    Visitor flow at scale

With such high footfall, queues must move steadily all day. Entry, session and exit routes were planned so groups never crossed.

Short sessions let more people experience the dome without long waits.

  7. 07

    Telling a technology story

A government technology event has a message to share with citizens. Dome content turns that message into an experience visitors can feel.

Immersive storytelling helps complex topics, such as digital services, feel clear and personal.

  8. 08

    Measuring results

Depending on the format, we can record sessions, viewers, dwell time, leads or training scores. The measures are agreed with the client before launch.

We publish numbers on this site only when the client has approved them and their source is clear.

Where figures are still being confirmed, the case study describes the work without them.

  9. 09

    Comfort, safety and access

Every experience is designed for first-time users. We avoid camera movement the user didn't cause and keep sessions short at busy events.

Headsets are cleaned between users, and the headset maker's age guidance is followed. Screen, dome and hologram versions serve people who prefer not to wear a headset.

Our crew briefs each visitor and stays close during the session, so everyone feels safe and confident.

  10. 10

    Equipment and crew

Culenz supplies the cameras, headsets, projectors, hologram boxes and computers each project needs. Everything is tested together before it leaves the studio.

A trained crew sets up, runs and packs down the experience. Spare equipment travels with them, so a single fault never stops the show.

  11. 11

    More Culenz work

Our published work includes the Republic Day Parade and Independence Day live in VR 360°. The IT Day XR Dome welcomed more than 1,00,000 visitors.

It also includes a VR ride for BMW Motorrad and an experience for Audi India. Festivals include a leading literature festival and Jashn-e-Rekhta, alongside a virtual Lotus Temple.

04 — Our process

Delivering a project like this

Every project follows five stages: scope, capture and storyboard, real-time build, integration and rehearsal, then run and support. Each stage ends with the client's sign-off.

The client reviews the work in the headset, on screen or at the venue at every stage. Changes happen early, when they cost the least.

On the day, a Culenz crew runs the experience or the broadcast. Afterwards, the client receives recordings, reports or a handover as agreed.

  1. 01

    Scope

We agree goals, audience, venue, devices and dated milestones, and you sign off the scope.

  2. 02

    Capture and storyboard

We gather plans, photos or scans and build a draft for you to review in the headset or on screen.

  3. 03

    Build

Final models, content and interactions are added and tested on the target device.

  4. 04

    Integrate and rehearse

Hardware is wired in, and the experience is rehearsed at the venue or a mock-up.

  5. 05

    Run and support

Our crew runs it or hands it over, followed by a review and a maintenance plan.

05 — Planning your project

Choosing the right partner

Checklist

Planning a similar project

  • Start with the goal and the audience. A brand activation, a national broadcast and a heritage tour each need a different format and crew.
  • Book a free scoping call, and we will recommend a format, a schedule and an itemised quote. If a simpler option works better, we will say so.
  • Fixed dates, such as an event or launch, should be shared early. Content production usually takes longer than setup.

Checklist

Commissioning checklist

  • Who is the audience, and will they watch in a headset, on a phone or in a crowd? What should they remember or do afterwards?
  • What are the fixed dates, and who signs off each stage? Clear answers keep the project on time and focused on its goal.

07 — FAQs

Questions buyers often ask

How many people can an XR dome serve per session?

It depends on the dome's size and whether visitors sit or stand. Larger domes serve bigger groups per session. We size the dome and session length from your expected footfall and opening hours.

Does an XR dome need headsets?

No. Content is projected onto the curved screen around the audience, so groups share the experience without headsets. VR stations can be added nearby for visitors who want a deeper experience.

Can Culenz build an XR dome for our event?

Yes. We design, equip and staff domes for government events, expos and brand launches. Share your dates, venue and expected footfall, and we will propose a size, content plan and crew.

How long does dome content take to produce?

It depends on the length and complexity of the film or animation. Dome content needs special formatting for the curved screen. We give a dated production schedule once the story and length are agreed.
