PPE selection VR training

This VR module trains workers to choose, inspect, put on and take off personal protective equipment correctly. Trainees match PPE to each task's hazards and learn the order that prevents contamination.

01 — Overview

Practice for correct PPE use

Personal protective equipment only protects when it is the right type, in good condition and worn correctly. Many workers get at least one of these wrong.

Removing contaminated PPE in the wrong order can expose skin to the very hazard it blocked. This is easy to explain but hard to remember.

A virtual reality PPE simulator lets workers choose, inspect, put on and remove PPE repeatedly. Mistakes show their consequences instantly.

02 — What's included

What each module covers

  • Match PPE to the hazard

Head, eye, hearing, hand, foot and respiratory protection for each task.

  • Inspect before use

    Spot damaged or expired equipment.

  • Donning and doffing

Put on and remove PPE in the order that avoids contamination.

  • Respirator fit

Understand fit checks and when a respirator is required.

03 — Key features

PPE VR training in depth

  1. 01

    Matching PPE to each task

Trainees review a task and its hazards, then choose head, eye, hearing, hand, foot and respiratory protection. Each choice is checked against the hazard.

Different tasks need different gloves or respirators. The module teaches trainees to read the task before reaching for the nearest item.

  2. 02

    Inspecting equipment before use

Trainees inspect helmets, gloves, harnesses and respirators for damage and expiry dates. Planted faults test their attention to detail.

Damaged equipment must be removed from use and reported. The module scores whether trainees take that step.

  3. 03

Donning and doffing in the right order

The order of putting on and removing PPE matters, especially in healthcare, pharma and chemical work. Trainees practise each sequence step by step.

Contamination is shown visually during doffing. A wrong step leaves a visible mark on the trainee's virtual skin or clothing.

  4. 04

    Respiratory protection

Trainees learn when a respirator is required and which filter type suits each hazard. They also practise a seal check.

The module explains why fit testing matters and how facial hair can break the seal. That helps workers understand the rules behind the equipment.

  5. 05

Common mistakes the PPE module catches

Trainees often remove gloves last instead of first, choose the wrong filter or wear damaged equipment. Some skip eye protection for short tasks.

The module highlights each error visually, such as contamination on the skin. Trainees repeat the sequence until it is correct every time.

  6. 06

Modules that pair well with this one

PPE training pairs with the chemical handling module and the hazard identification module. Workers learn to match protection to the hazards they find.

Healthcare and pharma teams often use the PPE module alongside gowning and cleanroom content. Those sequences rely on the same donning and doffing habits.

  7. 07

    Hardware, languages and training records

We build for standalone headsets such as Meta Quest 3, so no PC or cables are needed. Culenz can supply, set up and maintain the headset fleet for you.

Voice-over and on-screen text are produced in the languages your workforce uses, which we agree at scoping. Simple visual cues help workers who read little.

Every attempt is logged with the trainee's name, score, time and errors. Records export to your LMS through SCORM or xAPI, or as a spreadsheet for audits.

  8. 08

    Starting with a pilot

Many sites start the PPE module as a pilot with one department or shift. That shows how workers respond before a full rollout.

A pilot also tests practical details, such as where headsets are stored and who runs sessions. Those answers shape the wider rollout plan.

At the end, we review results with your EHS team and agree the next steps. Most sites then add more modules or more headsets.

04 — Our process

How on-site sessions run

A typical PPE session takes ten to twenty minutes in a standalone VR headset. A short briefing comes first, then the virtual task, then a debrief with the trainer.

Sessions run in a training room, a site office or a corner of the shop floor. Each trainee needs only a clear area of about two by two metres.

Trainers can run several headsets at once and watch each trainee's view on a tablet. That keeps a group moving through the module in one shift.

  1. 01

    Scope with your team

We agree tasks, trainees, sites and success measures with your EHS or training leads.

  2. 02

    Script and storyboard

Your experts approve every step, hazard and score before the build starts.

  3. 03

    Build and test

We build the module, test it on the headset and review it with your trainers.

  4. 04

    Pilot

One group or site trains first, and we review the results together.

  5. 05

    Roll out and support

Headsets, records and refresher content are rolled out across your sites, with maintenance.

05 — Planning your project

What shapes your budget

Pricing

VR safety module pricing

Cost depends mainly on how much is custom. A library module with your branding costs less than one set in a full model of your site.

The number of scenarios, languages and headsets also matters. Annual support and content updates can be added as a separate maintenance plan.

We share an itemised quote after a short scoping call. Content, hardware and support are listed separately, so you see what each part costs.

07 — FAQs

Questions buyers often ask

Why train PPE use in VR?

Workers often wear the right PPE incorrectly, or remove it in an order that contaminates them. VR shows the consequence of each mistake, such as exposed skin. Trainees repeat the sequence until they get it right every time.

Can the PPE module match our site's equipment?

Yes. We model the helmets, gloves, respirators and suits your site supplies, including brands and colour codes. Trainees then practise with equipment that matches what they will pick up from the store.

Is the PPE module useful in healthcare and pharma?

Yes. Gowning, cleanroom and infection-control sequences are a strong fit for VR, because order and contamination matter. Your QA or infection-control team reviews every step before the module goes live.

How do supervisors use PPE training records?

Records show which tasks each trainee completed, which PPE they chose and where they made mistakes. Supervisors use them to target refresher training and to show auditors that PPE training covered real tasks.
