AR/VR smart labs for schools

Culenz sets up AR and VR labs for schools, ITIs and universities: headsets, content and teacher training together. Students explore science, history and technical skills in 3D, guided by their teacher.

01 — Overview

XR labs for schools and universities

Many subjects are hard to show in class: the solar system, a beating heart or an engine's insides. Students learn better when they can explore them in 3D.

An AR/VR smart lab lets students step inside these topics with their teacher guiding them. Lessons become active rather than passive.

Labs also introduce students to the technology itself. That builds interest in careers in design, engineering and technology.

02 — What's included

The lab package

  • Content mapped to the syllabus

Lessons follow board and university syllabi, so teachers use them in regular classes.

  • Teacher control

One dashboard starts, pauses and guides every headset in the room.

  • Shared hardware

Headsets are charged, cleaned and managed for daily classroom use.

  • Teacher training

Teachers learn to run lessons and look after the devices themselves.

03 — Key features

AR/VR smart labs in depth

  1. 01

    Inside a smart lab

A lab includes a class set of standalone headsets, a charging and storage cart and curriculum content. A teacher dashboard controls every headset in the room.

We also train teachers to run lessons and look after the devices. The lab is ready for regular classes from the first week.

  2. 02

    Content mapped to the syllabus

Lessons follow board and university syllabi, so teachers use them in regular timetabled classes. Topics range from science and geography to history and engineering.

Short lessons fit within a normal class period. Teachers can mix VR time with discussion and written work.

  3. 03

    Teacher control

The teacher dashboard starts, pauses and guides every headset at once. Teachers can see what each student is looking at.

That keeps the class together and focused on the lesson. Teachers stay in control of the pace and content.

  4. 04

    Labs for ITIs and universities

ITIs combine smart labs with vocational simulators, such as welding and fitter training. Students learn theory in 3D and practise skills in VR.

Universities use labs for engineering, architecture and medical visualisation. Students explore designs and structures at full scale.

  5. 05

    Safe and age-appropriate use

Sessions are kept short, especially for younger students. Headsets are cleaned between users and stored safely.

Schools should follow the headset maker's minimum age guidance when planning which classes use the lab. We help plan a timetable that fits.

  6. 06

Common mistakes the smart lab catches

The most common problem is a lab that sits unused after launch. That happens when lessons don't fit the timetable or teachers lack confidence.

We avoid it with syllabus-mapped lessons and teacher training from day one. Usage reports show which classes use the lab and how often.

  7. 07

    Pairs well with this simulator

ITIs often combine a smart lab with vocational simulators, such as the Culenz VR welding and fitter simulators. Students learn theory and practise skills.

Medical and nursing colleges can add the mixed reality anatomy lab, sharing headsets and storage across departments.

  8. 08

    Hardware for the smart lab

Most Culenz simulators run on standalone headsets such as Meta Quest 3, with no PC or cables. Some add replica tools or controls where muscle memory matters.

Where the task needs a seat, joystick or full-size tool, we supply a training station built for daily use. Every station is tested with your trainers before handover.

We advise on how many stations you need from your batch sizes and training hours. Spare headsets and controllers keep sessions running if a device fails.

  9. 09

    Scores, records and your LMS

Every attempt is logged with the trainee's name, exercise, score, time and errors. Trainers see each trainee's progress on one dashboard.

Records export to your LMS through SCORM or xAPI, or as a spreadsheet for audits and funding reports. That gives skill councils and employers evidence of practice hours.

Group reports show which exercises most trainees find hard. Trainers can then spend more workshop time on those skills.

04 — Our process

Rolling out simulators across centres

Many organisations start with one centre or one batch as a pilot. That tests timetables, storage and trainer routines before a wider rollout.

Standalone headsets travel easily between centres and need little IT support. Our SafeSim Uno platform updates every device and collects records in one place.

We train your trainers to run sessions and look after the equipment. They then teach new batches without needing Culenz on site.

  1. 01

    Scope with your team

We agree tasks, trainees, sites and success measures with your EHS or training leads.

  2. 02

    Script and storyboard

Your experts approve every step, hazard and score before the build starts.

  3. 03

    Build and test

We build the module, test it on the headset and review it with your trainers.

  4. 04

    Pilot

One group or site trains first, and we review the results together.

  5. 05

    Roll out and support

Headsets, records and refresher content are rolled out across your sites, with maintenance.

05 — Planning your project

Choosing the right partner

Checklist

Buying checklist for your smart lab

  • Ask which exercises are included and whether they match your syllabus or job tasks. Check that scores measure the skills your assessors care about.
  • Ask how records export to your LMS, and who updates content when your equipment or procedures change. Confirm how quickly faults are fixed.
  • Finally, try it yourself with a trainer and a trainee. A short demo shows whether the controls and feedback feel right for your learners.

06 — Why Culenz

Culenz as your VR simulator partner

Culenz is a virtual reality company with offices across India and Dubai. We build VR training simulators for institutes, employers and government programmes.

One team scopes the smart lab with your trainers, builds it, installs it and supports it. An annual maintenance contract covers repairs, spares and content updates.

Quotes list content, hardware and support separately. You see exactly what each part costs before you commit.

07 — FAQs

Questions buyers often ask

What does a school VR lab need?

A class set of standalone headsets, a charging and storage cart, Wi-Fi, curriculum content and a teacher dashboard. Keep sessions short for younger students. Always follow the headset maker's minimum age guidance when planning which classes use the lab.

How many headsets does a school VR lab need?

Many schools start with enough headsets for half a class and rotate groups. Others equip a full class set. We recommend a size from your class sizes, timetable and budget during scoping.

Do teachers need technical skills to run the lab?

No. Teachers learn to run lessons from the dashboard during a short training session. We also provide guides and support, so teachers can focus on teaching rather than the technology.

Can the lab be used for government school programmes?

Yes. State education departments and school programmes can procure labs with fixed deliverables, installation, teacher training and maintenance. Records of lessons delivered and student participation support programme reporting, tenders and audits.
